Matthew13
I love it that Jesus was a storyteller. Admittedly, I don't always get the stories. I am not a first century farmer, nor am I a 21st century farmer, so some of his references require a little digging on my part. In it all, what I love about Jesus is his ability to speak the language of the people around him. In the early years of my life, I remember hearing church people pray in a language unfamiliar to me. I was lost in translation many times between the thees and the thous. Just the other night, my daughter asked me what "thou" meant. I'm not even sure where she heard it, but I remember asking the same question when I was probably around her age.
I want to live my life like Jesus in this way. I want to be able to "bring out into the open things hidden since the world's first days (12.35)." I think it's easier to want to do it than to actually pull it off though. I do my best to speak in language that is normal - whether I am writing, teaching, preaching or just having a drink with a friend. Of the resources I use when I teach, a thesaurus is not one of them.
Jesus amazes me. I'd love to partake of a Padron 1964 Anniversario with him (he'd probably remind me that the 13 was better)! We'd play a round of golf, I'd shoot 79 and feel really good about myself, but realize that Jesus just birdied every hole and eagled the 2 par fives for a 52...we'd go to the clubhouse for a cold beverage and recap. Then he'd tell a story...You know, Brad, the kingdom of God is like... And I'd learn something new about me, but even more about him.
What about you? Does Jesus come off as a guy you would want to hang around? Be honest. Though I would really like to, I know that it would be uncomfortable, but I think in a good way.
