Romans 13:6-7 :: God is getting in your business

Romans 13:6-7 in the Message and TNIV translations

When the world watches people who call themselves Christians, they aren't particularly interested in what church we go to or whether we are knowledgeable about the Bible. Often they are looking for the inconsistencies between what they know our faith teaches and how we actually live. And money--because it means so much in the world--is a focal point of their observation. Do we Christ-followers, who say life is about more than money, live as though it isn't? Do we do business with integrity and obey the laws of the land? Does our approach to making money, spending and saving money, paying our taxes and giving money away distinguish us in the world as followers of Jesus, or are we enough like everyone else to be disregarded?

There is a reason why it's front page news when a church declares bankruptcy, or when a pastor makes a very large amount of money: see, I knew they were frauds.. And the same principle applies to each of us as individuals and families. In the Kingdom, we have to put our money where our mouth is.
